Max Liebster died on May 28, 2008

Max Liebster

His wife, his cousin Alfred and his family,
the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses
and the Arnold Liebster Foundation

announce with deep sadness that

MAX LIEBSTER

was gathered to his ancestors on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.

Throughout his life, struggling for real life for 93 years, he never doubted the messianic prophecies. Even in the greatest agony, even in the concentration camp, he kept his hope up so that he could sleep in peace. He believed the promise of the prophet Isaiah (chapter 26, verse 19): You, Lord, are like the quickening dew; therefore the earth gives up the dead (Good News Bible)

A Bible-based funeral talk will be given on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 4:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 280 Chemin sous le Bois, 73100 AIX LES BAINS.

Mourning for Max Liebster

Lautertal. A few days ago, Lautertal’s honorary citizen and benefactor Max Liebster celebrated his birthday and thanked him for the congratulations from his old homeland. He passed away on Wednesday at his home in Aix-les-Bains, France, at the age of 93.

Max Liebster was born in Reichenbach in 1915 and also went to school here, among others together with the former municipal calculator Heinrich Weyhrauch. The Jew was arrested by the National Socialists and sent to a concentration camp. In the Buchenwald camp in 1945, the Reichenbach resistance fighter Jakob Kindinger saved his life. From 1994 he traveled the world with his wife Simone Arnold-Liebster to tell about their experiences and “keep the reminders from history alive.” Liebster’s book Hoffnungsstrahl im Nazisturm is the moving drama of a persecuted Jew, but also an unmistakable confession of faith by someone who found new courage to face life through the moral resistance of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Together with his wife he founded the Arnold Liebster Foundation. In 2004 Liebster was made an honorary citizen “in recognition of his persistent educational and peace work against forgetting”.

“His love for God and people, his courageous fight for peace and a clear conscience, his admonishing voice against oblivion will forever be remembered by all who knew him. A loss for all of us,” wrote Uwe Klages from the Arnold Liebster Foundation yesterday in a first statement.
The funeral will take place on Monday (2 June) at 2 p.m. in the Aix-les-Bains cemetery and the memorial address at 4 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Aix-les-Bains.
