Construction work has begun on the memorial for persecuted Jehovah’s Witnesses

History is currently coming to life in Berlin’s Tiergarten: Construction work on the memorial to the Jehovah’s Witnesses persecuted and murdered under National Socialism has begun on schedule. The memorial, which the German Bundestag decided to erect on June 22, 2023, is being built near the Goldfish Pond.

The construction site has been in place since April 2026. The bronze sculpture designed by artist Matthias Leeck in the form of a tree trunk – 4.95 meters high and weighing around 12 tons – is transported to the site in individual parts and assembled on site. At the same time, the access road, an information board and the landscaping plantings will be realized, which will be integrated into the Großer Tiergarten garden landscape monument in accordance with the specifications of the State Monument Office.

It is being realized by the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and is financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
